Community Garden Open Day in Plean Country Park on 31st Oct 2026
An exciting new volunteer lead community project providing growing space for the people of Plean
Come and discover Plean Community Garden, an exciting volunteer led project transforming the walled garden at Plean Country Park into a welcoming, accessible growing space for the whole community. Led by Plean’s Voice (SCIO) and Friends of Plean Country Park (SCIO), with support from Stirling Council, the garden will bring people together to grow, learn, share skills and enjoy time outdoors.
Started in April 2026 and inspired by nearby community gardens, the project will make practical use of an underused heritage space. At its centre will be an 8 metre by 15 metre polytunnel, supported by raised beds, seating areas, water storage, solar power and shared facilities. It will help Plean in Bloom grow plants for village displays, reducing the need to buy commercially grown plants and saving an estimated £1,000 each year.
The garden will offer residents a peaceful place to grow food and flowers, learn new skills, meet others and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of gardening. Raised beds inside and outside the polytunnel, including at least one wheelchair-accessible bed, will sit alongside level routes, tables, chairs and picnic areas.
The site will operate off grid, using harvested rainwater and a solar and battery-powered pump system. Solar power will also support low-voltage lighting and small equipment, with a generator available as backup.
Designed around inclusion, sustainability and community resilience, Plean Community Garden will welcome older residents, people with mobility challenges, families, volunteers and anyone seeking friendship, fresh air or a calming place to spend time.
