Orchard Planting

We have been working on a joint project to reinstate orchards within  the park with planting taking place during February and March. There are now three new areas of planting providing an opportunity for everyone to access an area of orchard.

Apple and pear trees have been planted against the south wall of the walled garden where there is still evidence of supports which would have been used for the original trees. A second orchard of apple trees has been planted in the garden ground beside the Gamekeepers Cottage where there are still some of the original fruit bushes. An area of plum.apple and pear trees has been created within the Field of Luckiness providing the third new area of planting. It is noticeable that even this early in the year, with the mild weather, there is already a significant amount of new growth on the recently planted trees.
